Short dining chair slipcovers are ideal when you wish to show off the legs of your chairs.  They are ideal when your present chair upholstery is looking a little ratty or you redecorated your home and need a new look for your chairs.

2 Types of short dining chair slipcovers:

  1. Fitted
  2. Loose / Casual

I prefer the loose dining chair covers on long dining room chairs.  For short covers, I prever the fitted slipcovers.  The following illustrates the difference:

Loose short dining room chair slipcover:

As you can see it’s loose where it drapes a short ways down from the seat.

Fitted short dining room chair slipcovers:

On the immediate above dining chair cover, the slipcover fits snug around the chair seat.

3 Primary Dining Chair Slipcover Materials:

  1. Cotton
  2. Suede
  3. Polyester/Spandex

Cotton is generally the material for the loose slipcovers whereas suede is reserved for the tight fitting slipcovers.

Cotton is more easy to care for than suede, so if you’re looking for a low-maintenance slipcover, you may have no choice but to go with the cotton loose fitting covers.

Polyester/spandex slipcovers are highly durable and also for fitted slipcovers.

How large are you dining room chairs?

This is an important question because if your chairs are too large, many slipcovers may not fit. A standard height is up to 42 inches.
Another measurement is the width of your chair across the widest part of your chair back.
Therefore, when shopping for dining chair slipcovers, be sure to know the dimensions of your chair to ensure you buy slipcovers that will fit.

Machine washable?

Frankly, I wouldn’t buy any slipcover that isn’t washable in your home washing machine.

Accessorizing

Many people buy slipcovers because they redecorate their home and don’t wish to buy new furniture. If this is the case for you or you simply want a new furniture look, consider buying other covers and pillows with matching fabrics and colors.

For example, if you go with a casual cotton slipcover, you’ll probably want the same style for your sofa and pillows. What you don’t want to do is mix your textures, colors and fabrics so that you have a clashing furniture design in your home.

Do you need to hire someone to apply your slipcovers?

You shouldn’t. In fact having to do so would largely defeat the purpose of saving money to redecorate without buying new furniture.
That said, fitted slipcovers are more difficult to put on your furniture, whether dining chairs, sofas, etc. Loose slipcovers are quite easy to place on your furniture.

It can be difficult to visualize how your slipcovers will appear on your dining room chairs. Therefore, Click here to view a huge variety of slipcovers to see the differences so you can make an informed decision.
