I love my ottomans.  I’m the type of guy that loves to put my feet up and an ottoman makes this easy.

One thing I find peculiar is that ottomans aren’t cheap.  At the end of the day they’re a box, rectangle or circle yet you can easily spend hundreds of dollars on an ottoman.

This is where ottoman slipcovers come in nicely – you can change the look of your ottoman or prolong your ottoman’s use by getting ottoman covers.

Fortunately, there are all kinds of ottoman slipcovers you can buy that cost MUCH less than buying a new ottoman.

Choosing ottoman slipcovers

The main variables to consider when buying ottoman covers are:

  1. Type of fit; and
  2. Color

Type of Fit

As with most slipcovers, the two main types of slipcover fits are loose (relaxed) and tight (form-fitting).

Frankly, I MUCH  prefer the form-fitting ottoman slipcovers.  But that’s just me.  The loose slipcovers give a drapery-style appearance which can be good in a casual room.

Color

As with other slipcovers, there are many colors to choose from.   The most popular ottoman slipcover color scheme is brown/beige.  You’ll find when shopping for ottoman slipcovers that most options fall in the brown and beige color scheme.

That said, you can find red, blue, green, yellow and even patterned ottoman covers.  You just have to look around a little.

Other ottoman cover considerations:

The material also comes into play.

When you buy a loose or relaxed fitting ottoman slipcover, your cover will be cotton.

The tight or form fitting ottoman covers are usually suede or leather.  Naturally the suede and leather slipcovers cost more (but not nearly as much as buying a new ottoman).

How much do ottoman slipcovers cost?

The main price range for ottoman covers is $30 to $40.  You can find them costing less, but generally expect to pay $30 to $40.

Fitting Ottoman slipcovers

Slipcover fit is also something you need to look into.  Some ottoman covers have specific dimensions while others (usually the stretch style) can fit around differently shaped ottomans.  There is no set size for ottoman slipcovers, therefore it’s important to know your ottoman’s dimensions when shopping for slipcovers.

Not all ottoman covers fit for all ottomans.  For example, if you have a round ottoman, you’ll need an round slipcover.  That said, some slipcovers that are flexible with fit and dimensions can be used for both square and rectangular ottomans.

Where can you buy ottoman covers?

Alternatively, you can check out home furnishing stores online or at a physical location near you.

Making your own ottoman covers

It’s one thing to make slipcovers for a sofa, which is more complex, but if you’re handy with a sewing machine, you can try your hand at making ottoman slipcovers.  It’s a straight-forward pattern given an ottoman is square, rectangular or round.  In fact, you can get this book for DIY slipcover designs and ideas.
